acrylic paint study on a wall
2 feet x 2 feet

while on my second artist residency at jupiterfab in gaudalajara mexico, i was working on my first outdoor mural. the mural was commissioned by a local resident who wanted something outside her home capturing the essence of some of the local natural beauty. the mural includes flowers and fruit all with different textures. at first i was going to paint large dahlia flowers, the national flower of mexico. but the resident asked instead for cempaÅ›uchil, a popular flower used on the dia de muertos in mexico, that was abundant in her hometown of morelia, michoacán. this is the practice dahlia that i painted on the residency walls.
